Frequently Asked Questions

Brothers Bedding Mattress Factory always makes your mattress the day before delivery FRESH OUT OF THE OVEN. Made to order to fit your needs and meet your expectations from quality, comfort level, price and size.

  • Warranties are a difficult part of shopping for a mattress. Most national brand name manufacturers offer warranties from 1 to 20 years. Warranties only cover defects in materials and workmanship, normal wear and tear considered. If you have a warranty problem the warranty will cover 100% of the labor and material cost to repair or replace a defective Mattress or Foundation (delivery from and to your home NOT included). Broken or protruding coils and wires are rare under normal usage. Over time, a mattress will wear out regardless of materials used. Great quality materials used in building mattresses and 2 sided mattress will definitely increase and give the mattress more lifespan usage.
  • When shopping for a mattress look for the best support, Foundation or Adjustable Base to avoid putting a new mattress on an old foundation that will result in dips and noise. The mattress will take the shape of the foundation that’s why we recommend purchasing sets Mattress and foundation. I would also select the most comfortable mattress, at a price that you can afford of course. Ask our sales associate for complete details on selecting your Brothers Bedding mattress.
  • Mattresses today are made with twice the foam and padding that they were made with years ago. This natural settling or body impression is normal. Flip your mattress. We offer 2 sided mattresses that last much longer than a 1-sided mattress, same concept of rotating tires so they can wear out evenly. We offer a flip service at the point of sale. It is a great way to flip your mattress regularly. No hassle for you.
  • If you spill anything that stains the mattress, leave it uncovered so it can dry out on its own. Don’t use water-based products to clean your mattress. We also offer Scotch guard treatment at the point of sale. Scotch guard will repel water until you can blot it away.
  • Brothers Bedding accepts checks, cash, credit cards or financing. We offer special financing options with approved credit. Call us for details. Most financing offers no money down.

Correct posture is an important part of your mattress and foundation. So when shopping for a mattress, have your salesperson check the position of your hips and lower back, the heaviest parts of your midsection. While the mattress and foundation set acts as a complete support system, the innerspring inside your mattress provides most of the support. The heavier the spring, the better the support and durability the mattress will provide. So, when evaluating the quality of the mattress you are considering, ask your salesperson for information on the types of coils used in the mattress.
Brothers Bedding makes all sizes and shapes of mattresses for your boat, RV, camper, truck, antique bed, or any size that you want. When you measure your special size mattress, be sure to allow 1″ or even 1.5″ total on length and width. If you are not sure how to measure your custom size mattress, you can bring it to our factory or mail a template of the mattress and we will figure it out for you. Also, if you have a waterbed, the usual size of a queen waterbed is “60 x 84” and a king waterbed is usually “72 x 84”.

What is your return policy?

Our return policy is: we do not do refunds unless there is a defect in the mattress. We will adjust your mattress for comfort reasons after 30 days, one time for free.  You only pay the round trip delivery charge based on your delivery location and current delivery rates.  We do not pass on the material or labor cost unless you have requested something special outside the comfort adjustment agreement in our warranty.

Why should I buy a mattress from Brothers Bedding?
At Brothers Bedding, we make our mattresses with higher quality materials than most of the major brand mattresses made today. You can get a higher quality mattress at a lower price because you are not paying for the national advertising and middleman markup that you do with the big names. We keep our overhead low and pass the savings on to you.
Do I have to flip a Brothers Bedding mattress and is the padding the same on both sides?
The real question is not “do I have to” but “can I” flip it? And the answer is yes you can. Most national brands try to tell you that it is to your advantage to have a 1 sided mattress, but the real advantage is for the manufacturer. Instead of putting the padding on both sides they only put it on one side and make more money. Brothers Bedding gives you padding on both sides so you can turn it over and get a much longer life out of your mattress. We don’t sell you half a mattress like the other guys.
DO I HAVE TO FLIP MY MATTRESS TO GET THE FULL WARRANTY?
No, you are not required to flip your mattress to receive the full warranty. A mattress warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, not the gradual loss of comfort or support. Using both sides of a mattress by periodically rotating and flipping your mattress will extend the life of your mattress set and can help minimize body impressions. On a 1 sided mattress, you are basically sleeping in the same spot every night, which will accelerate the wear and tear on the only sleeping surface.
How often should I turn/flip my mattress?
You should alternate between turning (spinning around from head to foot) and flipping (turning over) every couple of weeks for the first months and every few months after that. This helps the mattress to wear evenly and extends its life.
WHEN SHOULD I REPLACE MY MATTRESS AND BOX/FOUNDATION?
Replacement is driven by two things: comfort level of your existing mattress and the quality of the padding when the mattress is made. Brothers Bedding makes a mattress that will stay comfortable for 15 years period! It is very difficult to compare mattresses when shopping. The salesperson must tell you what the materials are inside the mattress. If you shop at Brothers Bedding first or last you will understand what your personal mattress has inside and we have a sample on the sales floor that you can see inside your mattress. You are welcome to come by when we make your personal mattress.
DO YOU DELIVER?
Brothers Bedding deliveries are available to our customers 5 days a week, Tuesday thru Saturday. We do have a delivery charge that will vary, depending on the location of your home. Call any of our stores for details. All deliveries originate from our factory at 906 Callahan Drive, Knoxville TN 37912. And you can pick-up at the same location.
HOW DO WE GET YOUR MATTRESS SET UP A TIGHT STAIRCASE?
Sometimes our customers need a split foundation system (2 pieces) to go up a tight staircase in an older home. We can do that for queen or full size sets. King size sets have a standard split foundation already. The mattress is not as difficult because a mattress can flex to get around tight spaces. Brothers Bedding highly recommends that all new mattresses and foundations are supported by a new frame. A new frame will support your new mattress set the way it should be supported.

Your weight and height is something that you must consider when choosing a new set of bedding.

Brothers Bedding can custom make any size, firmness or softness that you need regardless of your situation. Custom bedding is one our specialties.

WHAT ARE THE STANDARD SIZES OF OUR MATTRESS SETS?
These are the standard sizes for all twin, full, queen, and king size mattresses.

  • Twin 38 x 74
  • Full 54 x 74
  • Queen 60 x 80
  • King 76 x 80

Depending on how thick your new mattress is, it can vary 1” to 1.5”. If you buy a queen or king, you will probably rest better because of the extra room you will have. A queen is wider and longer that a full size. Also a king is much wider and is the same length as a queen size.

National name brands will try to promote 1 sided, no flip mattresses. Brothers Bedding offers a 2 sided, flippable mattress that will last much longer than a 1 sided, non flippable mattress. (It just makes sense). Some name brand stores promote that new technology will make a 1 sided mattress hold up for 8 years. With a Brothers Bedding 2 sided, flippable mattress, you can expect it to last to 15 years or longer (wear and tear considered). Simply put, a 2 sided, flippable mattress is the right choice for your money.

Brothers Bedding offers all types of financing. 12 to 60 months. Ask one of our salespeople for details. Call one of our stores if you would like to know details of the choices you have before you shop.

When do Brothers Bedding mattresses go on sale?
We price our mattresses at factory direct savings. We keep our prices as low as we can so you always have our best prices.
Does Brothers Bedding give free frames with a new mattress set?
No one really gives away free frames. That cost is included in the price of the purchase and if you don’t need a frame the retailer comes out ahead. We price our frames separately so if you don’t need a frame you don’t have to pay for one.
How do the innersprings used by Brothers Bedding compare to the ones used by the national manufacturers?
Brothers Bedding uses innersprings made by the same companies that make springs for many national mattress manufacturers. Sometimes they will make a slight change in the spring to give the national manufacturer something “unique” to advertise, but the support and durability remain the same. Just about all higher-end spring designs are very good today and will give good support and last the life of the mattress. What almost always breaks down in a mattress is not the spring but the inferior padding used by many manufacturers today.
What is the warranty on a Brothers Bedding mattress?
We warranty our mattresses against defects in materials and workmanship, and this is a non-prorated warranty unlike most national brands. This does not mean the mattress will feel the same over its entire life. Like most things, a mattress will slowly wear over time, but with the quality of the materials we use, our mattresses will last many years. The average life of a mattress should be around 10 to 15 years depending upon the amount of use and the weight of the people using it.
What makes one foam better than another?
Foams used in padding mattresses are rated for two different characteristics, density and firmness. Density refers to the weight of the foam per cubic foot. A foam with a higher density means there is more foam and less air in a cubic foot of the product. In a higher density foam, the “struts” that make up the cells of the foam are thicker resulting in a more durable product. These thicker struts in higher density foam resist fatiguing and taking a set longer than those in a lower density foam, giving you a longer lasting mattress. The density does not relate to how firm the foam is, only to its durability.

The second rating of a foam is its ILD, or Indentation Load Deflection. This refers to the foam’s firmness. This number represents the amount of force it takes to compress a 4” sample of the foam 1” (25% of it’s thickness). The higher the number, the more force it takes to compress the foam and the firmer it is. Two foams can have the same ILD, e.g. 35, but different densities. This means that they may feel the same when new, but the higher density foam will last longer than the lower density foam.

Foams are given a four digit number representing the product’s specifications, such as 2627. The first two digits represent the density. In this example 26 means 2.6 lbs per cubic foot. A decimal point is always added between the first two digits to determine the density. The second two digits represent the ILD, or firmness of the foam.

How does the foam in a Brothers Bedding mattress compare to the foams used in other mattresses?
We use higher density foams than most other manufacturers to give a longer lasting product.
Why don’t other manufacturers use higher density foams?
Cost. Higher density foams cost much more than lower density foams. When a mattress is new and on the showroom floor, the consumer can’t tell the difference between two foams of the same ILD. Many manufacturers save money by putting low density firm foams in their products. The consumer doesn’t find out until a few years down the road when low density foam breaks downs and no longer gives the consumer the support it should.
How many coils are there in a good mattress?
The industry standard has always been to use the number of coils in a full size mattress innerspring to designate the coil count. A 312 Bonnell spring has 312 coils in a full size mattress, less in a twin and more in a queen. Many manufacturers today quote the number of coils in a queen size mattress because it is a more common size people are purchasing these days. So what may be a 660 coil in industry terms is referred to as an 800 coil in sales promotion.

At Brothers Bedding we still go by the industry standard and refer to our coil counts by the number in a full size mattress. We consider any spring with a coil count of 368 and above to be a premium spring capable of lasting the life of the mattress, even with heavier people using the product. An innerspring with a coil count of 312 is still good for every night use by children and adults of average weight and will still last a long time.

I have seen cheaper mattresses at some of the “Discount Warehouse” stores, why are they cheaper?
We could make cheaper, low end, promotional bedding too, but prefer to give our customers a quality product that will last. Those low end mattresses are made of poor quality materials that may feel good on the showroom floor but break down in a very short time. We make our mattress with higher quality materials so they will last longer. Buying a mattress by price only will cost more in the long run because you will have to replace it much more often.
How do I care for my new mattress?
Use of a good mattress pad will keep your mattress clean and extend its life.
My old mattress had large body impressions, how do I prevent that?
Large body impressions are caused by low quality padding that breaks down and collapses or shifts with use. Using higher density foams, as Brothers Bedding does, helps prevent this from happening. Also, we cement the layers to each other in our pillow tops to prevent them from shifting around and forming lumps or ridges.

All mattresses, even ours, will show some settling of the layers of padding where you sleep, and this is normal with today’s thickly padded mattresses, and not a sign of the mattress breaking down. In a mattress with quality padding, these impressions should be small, usually less than an inch. Turning and flipping (which you can do with our mattresses) helps reduce this, and extends the life of your mattress. We have seen mattresses with low quality padding have impressions or sags exceeding 3 inches!
